Become a Steward

3 steps to signing on as a Local 483 steward:

  1. Sign Up: Complete a steward petition. This document outlines the responsibilities of steward to their union. Pass the petition around your workgroup for signatures of your fellow members. Give the completed petition to an active 483 steward or staff member.

  2. Train Up: Attend a new steward training. This introduction to Steward work is held once a month at the Laborers’ Training Center (17230 NE Sacramento St, Portland, OR 97230) and virtually every 3rd Tuesday of the month from 3:00pm - 4:30pm. More essential information found in LiUNA’s Steward Training Manual. There is also a library of steward resources available at our local office.

  3. Show Up: Attend monthly steward meetings on the third Tuesday of the month from 4:30-5:30pm virtually or in person at the Laborers’ Training Center (17230 NE Sacramento St, Portland, OR 97230). Take advantage of trainings and events provided by the union, as well as training opportunities through the larger labor community. Begin to work with your coworkers to stand up for their rights at work. Agitate, educate, organize, let’s go!
